Light Under the Door

I love the world and I want to share that love and trust
but i can't and i just want to close the doors
but i know that closing them will kill me
so i keep them open just a bit
waiting for the shadows to break
and a beam of light to illuminate my eyes
i want the stars to fall
so that down here in the dirt, we can have more light
and i want to hold hands with the love that is beaten down
to tell it "It's okay"
and convince it to try one more time
to not close the door
and to keep reaching out,
no matter how battered it gets.
because if one day love decides to give up
then we will all perish
and we will be left in the dark
all alone
and cold
